Esthetician Bed, Tattoo Bed and Treatment Bed Pads and Bolsters

A practical guide for salons, spas and tattoo studios on ordering custom replacement pads for esthetician and tattoo beds, plus bolsters and waiting-area cushions.

Quick answer: If an esthetician bed, tattoo bed or treatment bed frame is still solid but the padding is worn, a custom replacement top pad in Ultraleather or Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl is a practical fix. Measure each section of the bed, pick a firm foam and a wipe-clean fabric, and order matching bolsters and waiting-area cushions at the same time.

Bed frames last for years. The padding does not. Vinyl splits at the seams, foam flattens where clients lie, and a studio that looked sharp at opening starts to look tired. Replacing pads, bolsters and lobby seating together gives the whole space a consistent look for far less than new furniture. For a quote covering every room, send your list through our bulk cushion enquiry form.

This guide is for salon and spa owners, tattoo studio owners, nail salon managers and the designers who fit them out. It covers what we make, how to measure, which fabrics clean well and how a business order works.

What we make for salons and studios

  • Replacement top pads for esthetician beds, tattoo beds and treatment beds, made to the size of each section.
  • Bolsters for under the knees, ankles or arms. Our pillows and bolsters collection shows the shapes.
  • Waiting-area cushions for lobby benches, window seats and nail salon waiting areas.
  • Stool and seat pads for technician and artist stools, made to the seat size.

We make soft furnishings. The bed frame, its mechanism and any medical or health department requirements for your services are the buyer's responsibility. Check with the bed maker that a replacement pad suits the frame before you order.

How to measure a treatment or tattoo bed

Most beds have two to four sections: a backrest, a seat, a leg section, and sometimes an arm rest. Measure each one on its own.

  1. Measure the length and width of each section's base board, edge to edge.
  2. Note whether the corners are square or rounded. For rounded corners, trace one corner on paper.
  3. Measure the current pad thickness and decide whether to match it or go slightly thicker.
  4. Raise and lower each section and check the gaps, so new pads do not pinch or bind.
  5. Photograph each section from above and from the side, with a tape measure in the shot.

We make every cushion to within ±0.5″ of the ordered size. If we miss that, we remake it free. Angled or curved sections are made as custom shapes from a template.

Foam and firmness

Pads need firm, even support so clients stay comfortable and the artist or esthetician works at a steady height. We use CertiPUR-US certified foam from The Foam Factory, made without added flame-retardant chemicals.

  • Bed pads: a firm, high-resilience grade such as HD36-R keeps an even surface through long sessions.
  • Premium rooms: Lux-R foam comes with a 7-year warranty and gives a plusher feel.
  • Bolsters: a firm foam core holds its shape under the knees.
  • Thickness: the online builder goes up to 8″. Thicker pads can be quoted by email.

Fabrics that wipe clean between clients

Salon and studio fabrics deal with oils, lotions, ink and frequent cleaning. Two options suit most rooms.

Fabric Best for Fire testing
Ultraleather by Ultrafabrics Bed pads and bolsters with a soft, leather-like feel Cal TB 117, NFPA 260, UFAC, FMVSS 302, ASTM E84 adhered Class A
Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl High-turnover beds, stools and waiting benches Cal TB 117-2013, FMVSS 302, UFAC Class I

Browse our Ultraleather cushions for colors. For a closer look at leather-look options in a treatment setting, read our post on seat cushions for mobile medical spas.

Always clean according to the fabric maker's guidance. Check your disinfectants, oils and ink removers against the care instructions before you order. Swatches cost $7 each, and the cost is credited back with a one-time code on your order, so you can test them with your own products first.

Nail salons and waiting areas

Nail salons and busy studios often have more waiting seating than treatment beds. Built-in benches look neater with one long cushion, or matching sections, than with loose pads.

  • Match the waiting-area fabric to the bed pads for a consistent look.
  • Ties in matching fabric are standard. Velcro is available on request. We do not add non-slip backing.
  • Zipped covers let you replace one marked cover without replacing the foam.

Our waiting room cushions page covers bench seating for clinics and treatment spaces.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Measuring the old pad instead of the board. Old foam spreads and sags. Measure the base board.
  • Skipping the swatch test. Test with your real oils, inks and cleaners.
  • Ignoring section gaps. Pads that are too tight can bind when the bed moves.
  • Forgetting the bed maker. Confirm a replacement pad suits the frame.
  • Mixing fabrics across rooms. One fabric makes spare covers and repeat orders simpler.
