How to measure a cushion
- Replacing a cushion? Unzip the old cover and measure the foam itself, edge to edge. Covers stretch over time, so the foam is more accurate.
- Measuring the cover? Measure seam to seam, not over the piping. Piping adds about ¼″.
- No old cushion? Measure the seat of the frame and take about ½″ off each side so the cushion fits inside it.
- Odd shapes? For tapered, rounded or notched seats, send a paper template. Our measuring guide walks through each shape.
We cut every cushion to within ±0.5″ of the size you order. If it arrives outside that, we remake it free.

Foam warranty from 1 to 7 years, depending on the foam you choose. Add a single or double Dacron wrap to round the edges and fill the cover out; don't take it off your measurements.
See the warrantyCommon questions
Is a 2-inch cushion thick enough?
For dining and piano benches, yes. A 2″ cushion in firm Lux-R foam stays comfortable without raising the seat too much. For window seats and longer sitting, choose 3″.
How thick should a window seat cushion be?
3″ suits most window seats and breakfast nooks. Choose 4″ for a deep bay window you lounge in.
How thick should a sofa cushion be?
Sofa and couch seats usually take 4–6″ of HD36-R foam with a Dacron wrap. Back cushions use Super Soft foam or fiber fill.
What is the best foam for outdoor cushions?
Dryfast. Its open cells let rain drain straight through, so the cushion dries quickly and resists mildew. HD36-R also works outdoors under cover.
How long is the foam warranty?
It depends on the foam: 7 years for HD36-R and Lux-R, 5 years for Dryfast, 3 years for Super Soft and 1 year for Poly.
Can I get a cushion thicker than 8 inches?
Daybed mattresses, double chaise and 2-break chaise cushions go up to 12″ in the builder. For anything else over 8″, email operation@fabricakraft.com for a quote.
What is a Dacron wrap?
A thin polyester batting wrapped around the foam. It softens the edges, fills the cover out and makes the cover easier to zip on.
