Cushions That Fit the IKEA POÄNG Chair & Footstool

The POÄNG is a bentwood chair with a single long cushion that runs from the seat up the back, plus a separate footstool cushion. With daily use the seat area compresses and the cover wears, while the frame keeps going. We make new cushions to your measurements, in fabrics that suit a reading corner, nursery or living room.

Shape

How is a POÄNG cushion measured?

Because the cushion runs from the front of the seat to the top of the back, measure it as one total length, then note where it bends at the seat-to-back joint. Measure the width at the seat and at the top of the back, as these can differ, and check whether the top edge is rounded. If your cushion has a shaped top or a fold that is hard to describe, lay it flat, trace it on paper and email a photo to care@fabricakraft.com. Shapes made from a template take 5–6 weeks.

Comfort

Firm or soft: which fill should I choose?

The POÄNG frame already has some spring, so most people prefer a medium HD36-R fill with a Dacron wrap for a soft, rounded top. If the chair is used for nursing, reading for hours or by someone who wants more support, Lux-R holds its shape longer. A lumbar pillow in the same fabric is an easy way to add back support without making the whole cushion firmer.
