Fire-safety fabrics for commercial cushions and curtains in Australia

Many commercial projects in Australia require upholstery and curtain fabrics with documented fire test results, most often to AS/NZS 1530.3. This guide explains what the standard measures, where it usually applies and how we document the fabrics we supply.

This is general information, not compliance advice. Your building certifier or fire engineer sets the requirement for each project.

Buyer’s guide

Understanding the requirements

What AS/NZS 1530.3 measures

AS/NZS 1530.3 tests how a material ignites, spreads flame, releases heat and produces smoke. Results are reported as indices that specifiers compare with the limits for their building.

Where it usually applies

Requirements come from the National Construction Code and depend on building class and area. Hotels, aged care, health and public buildings commonly specify tested fabrics for curtains and upholstery. Your certifier confirms what applies.

What to send us

  • The standard and any index limits in your specification.
  • The areas the fabric is for.
  • Your preferred colours or ranges.

We'll reply with fabrics that have matching results.

How it works

From your brief to your door

  1. 01

    Send your brief

Sizes, quantities, fabric ideas and your deadline. Photos, drawings or old covers all work. We reply the same day during business hours.

  2. 02

    Approve the spec and quote

You get a spec sheet with every dimension and option, plus a project quote. Nothing is cut until you sign off. Order swatches if you'd like to see the fabric first.

  3. 03

    We make it

A deposit starts production, which takes 2–3 weeks for standard shapes, 5–6 weeks for custom shapes made from your template, and 8–12 weeks for Ultraleather and Gabriel. Rush production is available for standard shapes. If anything slips, you hear from us before the date, not after.

  4. 04

    Delivered, tracked and insured

The balance is due before dispatch. Delivery is free Australia-wide, and every parcel is tracked and insured. Covers and foam may arrive separately, and foam needs 12–18 hours to expand once unpacked.
