Warwick Fabrics: An Australian Buyer's Guide to Upholstery, Velvet and Curtain Fabric
What Warwick is known for, which ranges suit cushions, upholstery and curtains, what its fire testing means, and how to order Warwick cushions made to measure in Australia.
On this page
Warwick is one of the best-known names in Australian interiors. Founded as an Australian design house, it supplies upholstery fabric, velvets, faux leathers, drapery and sheers to designers, upholsterers and homeowners around the world. If you are searching for Warwick fabrics in Australia, this guide explains what the ranges are good for, how to read the specs, and how to get cushions and curtains made in them without buying fabric by the metre.
What Warwick fabrics are best for
Warwick is an indoor fabric. It looks and feels more residential than performance outdoor fabrics, which makes it a favourite for living rooms, bedrooms, window seats and hotel guest rooms. For anything that sits outside in sun or rain, choose Sunbrella instead.
- Upholstery fabric: textured weaves and plains for seat cushions, window seats and benches
- Velvet: ranges such as Novara for a rich, soft finish on throw cushions and lounge seating
- Faux leather: the Lustrell family, a leather-look fabric rated for heavy commercial use, ideal for dining benches and banquettes
- Curtain fabric: drapery weights and sheers for full-length curtains

Understanding Warwick's fire testing
Warwick tests its fabrics to the Australian and New Zealand standard AS/NZS 1530.3, which measures ignitability, spread of flame, heat and smoke. On the spec sheets for ranges such as Ronan, Dion, Beachcomber and Lustrell Charisma, the spread of flame index is 0 out of 10, the best possible score. This is the standard most Australian commercial projects ask for. If you are specifying for a US project that requires Cal TB 117-2013 or NFPA 260, see our fire safety and flammability standards page.
How to choose the right Warwick fabric
- Think about use. Daily-use seating needs a hard-wearing weave or faux leather. Throw cushions can be softer velvets.
- Think about light. Strong afternoon sun through a window can fade any indoor fabric over time, so choose mid-tones for sunny window seats.
- Think about cleaning. Faux leathers wipe clean. Woven fabrics need vacuuming and spot cleaning.
- Order swatches first. Colours look different on screen, so check a swatch in your own light before you order.
Getting Warwick cushions made to measure
You don't need to buy fabric by the metre and find an upholsterer. Pick a Warwick fabric, enter your sizes in our cushion builder, and we cut and sew the cushion to fit, within ½ inch of your measurements. We make:
There is no minimum order, cushions are made to order in 2–3 weeks, and complete cushions ship to Australia. For Australian orders we use foam from Premier Group in Sydney.
