Questions about Sunbrella outdoor sheers

Quick answers about sizing, fabrics, foam and delivery.

Do Sunbrella sheer curtains block the sun? + −

They filter it rather than block it. Velum, Natte and Mild are semi-sheer weaves that soften glare and take the edge off the heat on a pergola, deck or cabana, while you keep the view and the breeze. Lighter shades let more daylight through. For full shade or privacy after dark, choose solid custom outdoor curtains instead.

Can outdoor sheer curtains stay outside in rain and wind? + −

Yes. Sunbrella sheers are solution-dyed and made to live outdoors, so they resist fading and mildew and dry quickly after rain. Let wet panels dry fully before you tie them back for long. In strong wind, tie them back so they do not catch like a sail, and take them down for winter if you get snow or ice.

Can I add blackout or privacy lining to sheer curtains? + −

No. We make every sheer unlined, because a lining would stop the light and air coming through, which is the reason to choose a sheer. For privacy at night, hang solid outdoor panels on a second rod behind the sheers. Our solid Sunbrella and Agora outdoor curtains can be made with optional blackout or privacy lining.

How do I measure for outdoor sheer curtains? + −

Put the rod or track up first. Measure the rod width between the end caps, then the drop from the top of the rod to where the panel should end, stopping just above the deck so the hem stays out of rainwater. Sheers look best with panels that add up to about twice the rod width. The curtain size calculator works out panel sizes for you.

Which heading styles can I choose for Sunbrella sheers? + −

Sunbrella sheers come with a tab top, back tab or rod pocket heading. Tab top shows fabric loops above the panel and slides easily along a pole. Back tab hides the loops behind the panel for neat, even folds. Rod pocket is a sewn sleeve that gathers softly on a slim rod and suits panels you rarely open and close.

How do I clean Sunbrella sheer curtains? + −

Shake or brush off loose dirt and pollen first. Then sponge the panels with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse well with clean water and let them air dry fully before you rehang or tie them back. Avoid a hot dryer and high-heat ironing, which can damage the fabric. A quick rinse with a garden hose between deeper cleans keeps salt and dust from building up.

How long do custom sheers take, and can I see the fabric first? + −

Most custom sheer curtains are made and shipped in 2–3 weeks. Sheer fabric is hard to judge on a screen, because how much light it lets through depends on the shade and the weave, so it is worth seeing it in person. Order fabric swatches first; the swatch cost comes back to you as a one-time code on your curtain order.
