Indoor bench cushions
For mudroom, entryway, kitchen, dining and end-of-bed benches, choose Warwick, velvet or faux leather. See all indoor bench cushions, or piano bench cushions for a thin, firm pad cut to your bench top.
Outdoor bench cushions
Garden, porch, patio and deck benches need fabric and foam made for weather. Our outdoor bench cushions use solution-dyed Sunbrella that resists fading and mildew, with Dry Fast foam available for benches left out in the rain. Use the bench cushion builder to enter your size and see the price as you go. Read more on foam depth and fabric for outdoor bench cushions.
How to measure for a bench cushion
- Measure the seat length edge to edge. If the bench sits between walls or arms, measure the inside space at the front and at the back.
- Measure the depth from the front edge to the back rail or wall.
- If the front and back lengths differ, choose a trapezoid cushion. Corner benches suit an L-shaped cushion.
- Note any cut-outs around posts or legs, or send us a paper template for unusual shapes.
Replacing an old cushion? Measure the foam edge to edge, not the old cover. We cut to within ±0.5″ of the size you order. Our step-by-step guide to measuring for a bench cushion covers angled ends, cut-outs and long benches.
Foam and thickness
- High Density: a medium feel for everyday benches, 3″ to 5″ thick.
- Lux foam: firm, best for dining and kitchen benches with a thinner 1″ to 3″ pad.
- Dry Fast: open-cell foam that drains water, for outdoor benches.
- Dacron wrap (add-on): a softer, rounder edge.
We cut up to 8″ thick. All foam is CertiPUR-US certified.
Questions about bench cushions
How thick should a bench cushion be?
2″ to 3″ suits a dining bench or banquette, where you sit at table height. 3″ to 4″ is the most comfortable for entryway, garden and porch benches.
How do I keep a bench cushion from sliding?
Ties in matching fabric come standard, and Velcro is available on request. We do not use non-slip backing, because it stops covers being machine washable and voids the warranty.
Can you make a very long bench cushion?
Yes. Long benches can be one piece, or split into two or three cushions that sit end to end, which are easier to lift and clean.
Can I order just a cover for my bench cushion?
Yes. Every builder offers cover only, foam only or the complete cushion. Covers are zippered so they come off for cleaning.
How long does a custom bench cushion take?
Most bench cushions ship in 2–3 weeks. Rush production and express shipping are available at extra cost. Not sure on colour? Order swatches first.
