A chaise lounge cushion is long, it folds where the back meets the seat, and it has to stay put when you adjust the lounger. Getting those three things right is what makes a replacement cushion feel like the original.

Quick answer: Measure a chaise lounge cushion flat: the overall length from the head to the foot, the width, and where the hinge sits between the back and seat sections. The total length is the seat length plus the back length. Note the thickness and tie positions. If the old cushion still holds its shape, measure it seam to seam.

Start with the old cushion, if you have one

If your old cushion still holds its shape, measure it flat on the ground from seam to seam. That tells you the size the manufacturer intended. If it's badly worn or missing, measure the frame instead, using the steps below.

1. Overall length

Lay the chaise completely flat and measure from the top of the backrest to the foot of the seat. Measure along the frame, not over any gaps.

2. Width

Measure across the frame at the top, middle and foot. Many loungers taper, so note all three. If they differ by more than about half an inch, tell us both the widest and narrowest width.

3. Hinge position

The hinge is where the cushion folds when you raise the backrest. Measure from the top of the backrest down to the point where the frame bends. This is the measurement people most often skip, and it's what makes the cushion bend in the right place. Some chaises also bend at the knee, so measure that too.

4. Thickness

Most chaise cushions are 2 to 4 inches thick. Thinner cushions suit slatted poolside loungers and stack easily; thicker ones feel more like a daybed. Check that the backrest still folds with a thicker cushion on it.

5. Ties

Note where the frame has crossbars or slats you can tie to. Ties at the top and at the hinge keep the cushion from sliding when the back is raised.

Fabric and foam for outdoor chaises

Poolside and deck loungers sit in full sun and get wet. Sunbrella holds its colour in strong sun, and Dry Fast foam lets water drain straight through so the cushion dries quickly after rain or a swim.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order just a new cover for my chaise cushion?

Yes. If the foam still springs back, order a cover only. Measure the old cover flat from seam to seam, note where the hinge seam falls, and give us the thickness. A zippered cover lets you swap the fabric later. See Sunbrella cushion covers for colours that suit a pool deck.

What is a two-break chaise cushion?

A two-break cushion folds in two places, usually at the back and again near the knees or foot, to match loungers that bend in more than one spot. Measure each section separately and note where every hinge falls. See chaise lounge cushions.

Which fabric is best for a poolside chaise?

Sunbrella is a strong choice for pools. It resists fading in strong sun and most Sunbrella fabrics repel water and stains. Pair it with dry-fast foam so the cushion dries quickly after a swim. Compare colours in our Sunbrella outdoor cushions guide.

How long do custom chaise cushions take?

Standard chaise cushions are made and shipped in 2–3 weeks, and shipping within the US is free. Each one is cut to within ±0.5″ of your measurements, and if we miss that tolerance we remake it free. Measuring errors are not returnable, so check each section twice.
