A practical guide for hotel and spa teams choosing made-to-measure sun lounger cushions for outdoor pools, spa terraces and indoor pool halls.

Quick answer: For hotel and spa sun loungers, choose quick-dry reticulated foam with solution-dyed outdoor fabric outside, and wipe-clean marine vinyl or a washable fabric for indoor pools where damp air and splashes are constant. Order spare covers, plan storage for the British winter, and get the maker's fire test reports for any lounger used indoors.

Loungers are often the first thing a guest photographs at a pool or spa, and the first thing they complain about when cushions are faded, damp or flat. Getting them right is a mix of foam, fabric and routine. Our hotel and B&B cushions service covers loungers alongside the rest of your property, from bedrooms to terraces.

This guide looks at three settings: outdoor pool decks, spa terraces, and indoor pools. For poolside shapes, sizes and examples, see our page on hotel and resort pool cushions.

Three settings, three sets of demands

Setting Main challenge What usually works
Outdoor pool deck Rain, sun cream, summer fade Sunbrella outdoor fabric over Quick Dry reticulated foam
Spa terrace Wet robes, heavy dew, mixed weather Sunbrella waterproof range or Horizon marine vinyl with quick-dry foam
Indoor pool hall Constant humidity, chlorinated splashes, long hours of use Horizon marine vinyl or Ultraleather, wiped down daily

Quick-dry foam is the starting point

Standard foam acts like a sponge. Once wet it stays wet, and that is where smells and mould begin. For any lounger near water, ask for Quick Dry reticulated foam. Its open-cell structure lets water drain straight through and air move freely, so cushions dry much faster after rain, a wet swimsuit or a cleaning wipe-down. It also self-extinguished in independent ignition tests.

For UK orders our foam is made and cut in the UK by GB Foam in High Wycombe, an ISO 9001 manufacturer working since 1976.

Fabric choices for hospitality furniture by water

  • Sunbrella outdoor fabrics are solution-dyed, so colour runs through the fibre and resists fading and mould. Most are water-repellent, not waterproof, and covers are machine washable.
  • Sunbrella waterproof and marine ranges are waterproof, a better fit for loungers that stay out in all weathers.
  • Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl wipes clean, which suits indoor pools and busy spa terraces.
  • Ultraleather gives a softer, more upholstered feel for relaxation rooms and indoor pool areas.

Indoor pools put fabrics under steady pressure from damp air and chlorinated water. Rinse or wipe cushions with fresh water regularly and follow the fabric maker's care guidance. We send care instructions with every quote. Our guide on how to clean Sunbrella cushions covers the routine for woven fabrics.

Towels, robes and sun cream

Guests lie on loungers in wet swimwear, rub in sun cream and drape damp robes over the back. A few habits keep cushions looking good:

  • Lay a towel on each lounger as part of set-up, so the cushion takes less direct contact.
  • Wipe down vinyl cushions at least daily, and after heavy use.
  • Spot clean sun cream marks promptly on woven fabrics, before they set.
  • Turn cushions over where both faces are finished, to share the wear.

Spare covers and quick turnarounds

Every cushion we make has a zipped, removable cover, and covers can be ordered without foam. That makes spare covers one of the best-value things a hotel can order. When a cover is stained or damaged on a busy weekend, staff can swap it in minutes and send the old one for washing. How many spares you need depends on how busy the deck gets and how quickly your laundry turns covers round.

Measuring loungers properly

Loungers that look the same can differ by a few centimetres, especially if they were bought in different years. Measure each model separately:

  • Overall length and width of the frame where the cushion sits.
  • Section lengths on adjustable loungers, so the cushion folds where the backrest hinges.
  • Thickness that suits the frame. Too thick and the backrest may not lock in every position.
  • Tie positions, noted against the frame bars.

For standard lounger shapes, our chaise lounge cushions collection is a quick way to see sizes and options.

Seasonal storage for UK pools

Outdoor pool seasons in the UK are short, and cushions spend more time in storage than in the sun. Store them well and they will last many seasons:

  1. Clean and fully dry every cushion before it goes away.
  2. Store indoors, off the floor, in a ventilated space.
  3. Stack flat or on edge, avoiding heavy weights on top that can crease foam.
  4. Label by lounger type so set-up next spring is quick.

Fire safety for indoor loungers

Loungers in indoor pool halls, relaxation rooms and covered spa areas are part of the building, so your fire risk assessment will apply. Ask your fire officer what standard they want, then tell us. We match fabrics to the requirement and attach the maker's test reports to the quote. We do not certify the finished installation; the fire officer has the final say. Our UK fire safety fabrics guide sets out the tests in plain words.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using standard foam in poolside cushions.
  • Assuming every outdoor fabric is waterproof.
  • Choosing white or very pale fabric for heavy sun-cream use.
  • Ordering without spare covers.
  • Measuring one lounger and assuming every model matches. Check the length of each section on adjustable loungers.

Ordering for a business

Send a list of lounger models, quantities, measurements and photos through our bulk cushion enquiry form or email operation@fabricakraft.com. Tell us which are indoors and which are outdoors, and any colour standards your brand follows. Swatches carry a small charge, credited back on your order, so you can check colours in your own light.

You approve a spec sheet with a drawing for each lounger before anything is cut. Standard shapes take 2 to 3 weeks, and custom shapes from your template 5 to 6 weeks. If the season is close, rush production and express shipping are available at extra cost. Every cushion is made to within 6 mm (maximum ±2.5 cm) of the ordered size, or we remake it free. UK delivery is free and shipped DDP, so there is no duty or VAT to pay on arrival.

Hotel groups, spa operators and designers who order regularly can join our trade programme for 10%, 15% or 20% off based on rolling 12-month spend. To get started, visit our hotel and B&B cushions page and send us your lounger list.
