Campervan and Caravan Cushions: A Trade Spec Guide for Converters

A trade specification guide for UK van converters, dealers and holiday parks on ordering made-to-measure campervan, motorhome and static caravan cushions.

Quick answer: For campervan, motorhome and caravan builds, order seat, back and bed cushions made to measure from a template or the build drawings, with firm UK-made foam and a hard-wearing, easy-clean fabric. Approve a spec sheet for each layout and keep it on file, so repeat builds can be reordered to the same sizes.

Converters and dealers need cushions that fit tight, odd-shaped spaces, look consistent across a range, and arrive when the build is ready. Made-to-measure cushions let you offer the layouts customers want without carrying stock in every size. To quote a build or a range, send your layouts through our bulk cushion enquiry form.

This guide is written for van converters, motorhome dealers, caravan refurbishers and holiday parks. If you are a private owner, our caravan and motorhome cushions guide is a better starting point.

What a typical build needs

  • Seat and back cushions for rear benches, side benches and dinettes.
  • Bed cushions that join to make a bed when the seats are folded or the table is lowered.
  • Infill cushions that bridge gaps between seats at night.
  • Bolsters and scatter cushions to finish the look.

Our campervan and RV cushions collection shows the standard shapes. Anything with angled or curved edges, such as wheel-arch cut-outs, is made as a custom shape from your template.

Measuring and templates for vans

Van interiors are full of angles. Taking a careful template once saves time on every later build of the same layout.

  1. Measure each seat base and back panel: width, depth and any taper from front to back.
  2. Make paper or card templates for any shape that is not a simple rectangle, marking the front edge and which way is up.
  3. Check how the cushions meet when the bed is made up. Gaps and overlaps show up here first.
  4. Note the space above each cushion, so a thicker seat does not foul a cupboard or window.
  5. Give each layout a name or code and use it on every drawing and photo.

Our custom-shaped cushions page explains how to send templates. We make every cushion to within 6 mm (maximum ±2.5 cm) of the ordered size; if we miss that, we remake it free.

Foam for seats and beds

A van cushion has two jobs: a seat by day and a mattress by night. Firmness has to suit both. Our UK foam is made and cut by GB Foam in High Wycombe, an ISO 9001 manufacturer working since 1976, and meets UK fire safety regulations for upholstered furniture.

  • Seat and bed cushions: a firm, high-resilience foam gives support when seated and stays even when laid flat.
  • Back cushions: a slightly softer foam is more comfortable to lean on.
  • Thickness: the online builder goes up to 8 inches (about 20 cm). Thicker cushions can be quoted by email.

Fabrics for vans and caravans

Vans see sandy feet, wet dogs, spilled drinks and strong sun through the windows. Choose fabric for the use, then the colour.

  • Sunbrella upholstery fabrics: solution-dyed, fade and mould resistant, with machine-washable removable covers.
  • Ultraleather: a soft, leather-like surface that wipes clean, popular for premium builds.
  • Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl: tough and wipe-clean for hire fleets and family vans.

With more than 10,000 colours across our ranges, you can keep a house fabric for every build or offer customers a short menu. Swatches carry a small charge, credited back with a one-time code on your order.

Static caravans and lodges

Holiday parks and static caravan refurbishers face the same issues on a larger scale: many units, similar layouts and a short window between seasons. Measure one unit of each model carefully, then spot-check others. Our holiday park and lodge cushions page covers park-wide refurbishment.

Fixings, covers and finishing

Small details make a van interior feel finished and make life easier for the owner.

  • Zipped covers come as standard, so owners can remove and clean them.
  • Ties in matching fabric are standard. Velcro is available on request, which suits seats that need to stay put on the move. We do not add non-slip backing.
  • Covers only: if you prefer to source foam yourself, covers can be ordered without foam.
  • Foam only: foam can be ordered alone for refurbishments where the covers are still good.

Repeat orders for a range

Once a layout is right, keep it consistent.

  • Keep the approved spec sheet for each layout and quote its reference on repeat orders.
  • Stick to one fabric and foam per layout, unless the customer pays for a change.
  • Order covers on their own when a cushion only needs a fresh look, and foam on its own when it has gone soft.
  • Plan orders against your build schedule, allowing 2 to 3 weeks for standard shapes and 5 to 6 weeks for custom shapes.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Measuring before the build is finished. Wait until panels and trims are in place.
  • Templates without labels. Mark the front, the top and the layout code on every template.
  • Forgetting the bed. Check how every cushion fits when the bed is made, not just as seats.
  • Too thick for the space. Measure headroom above seats and clearance under cupboards.
  • Different fabrics per batch. Mixed batches show colour differences across a range.

How a commercial order works

Send your layouts, templates, photos and fabric choices through our bulk cushion enquiry form, or email operation@fabricakraft.com. We reply with a quote, and you approve a spec sheet with a drawing of every cushion before anything is cut.

Rush production and express shipping are available at extra cost when a handover date moves. Delivery across the UK is free and shipped DDP, so there is no duty or VAT to pay on arrival. There is no minimum order, so a one-off conversion is handled the same way as a production run.

Converters and dealers who order regularly can join our trade programme for 10%, 15% or 20% off, based on rolling 12-month spend. For showrooms and other premises, see our commercial cushions and curtains hub.
