Hotel and Country Club Pool-Deck Cushions: A Buyer's Guide

How to specify chaise, daybed and cabana cushions for a hotel or country club pool deck that stay bright, dry and on brand.

Quick answer: Pool-deck cushions for hotels and country clubs work best in solution-dyed Sunbrella fabric over Dryfast quick-drain foam, sized to each chaise, daybed and cabana. Plan spare covers, a towel policy and seasonal storage from day one, and lock in brand colours with physical swatches before production.

The pool deck sells a property. Guests photograph it, members judge it, and it often shapes the first impression of a resort or club. It is also one of the harshest places for upholstery: full sun, chlorine, sunscreen, wet towels and constant use. Whether you are choosing outdoor furniture for hotels or refreshing country club furniture around the pool, the cushions decide how the deck looks and how long it lasts. This guide is for general managers, club managers, facilities directors and hospitality designers. Our hotel and resort pool cushions are made to measure for chaise lounges, daybeds and cabanas, with no minimum order.

What the pool deck demands

  • UV exposure: long hours of direct sun that fade ordinary fabric within a season.
  • Wet guests: swimsuits and towels soaking cushions all day.
  • Sunscreen and oils: residue that marks light colours.
  • Fast resets: attendants flipping and straightening loungers between guests.
  • Brand standards: colours that must match across the property and over time.

Chaise lounges

Chaise lounges are the core of most pool decks. Most have a hinged back, so the cushion needs to bend at the right point. Measure carefully:

  1. Total length and width of the frame where the cushion sits.
  2. The point where the back hinges, measured from the head end.
  3. Corner shape: square, rounded, or notched around the frame.
  4. Tie positions that line up with frame rails.

A 3 to 4 inch cushion is common on commercial chaises. Many properties run several frame models, so measure one of each and label them. See standard shapes in our chaise lounge cushions collection.

Daybeds and cabanas

Daybeds and cabana seating are often the premium spots on the deck, rented or reserved. They are usually larger, deeper and more varied in shape. Built-in cabana benches in particular need to be measured on site, and curved or angled pieces should be templated. Custom shapes from a template take 5 to 6 weeks, compared with 2 to 3 weeks for standard shapes, so order these first. Browse daybed cushions for standard options.

Good cabana cushions usually include back and bolster pieces, not just a seat. They make a deep seat usable for sitting up, not just lying flat, and they are easy to swap when stained.

Fabric: fade resistance and wet use

Sunbrella is solution-dyed, which means the colour goes through the fibre. It resists fading and mold, and covers are machine washable. Most Sunbrella is water-repellent rather than waterproof. On a pool deck, that is usually fine when paired with quick-drain foam, because water passes through and dries out.

If you want a surface that does not absorb water at all, look at the Sunbrella waterproof range or Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl, which wipes clean. Vinyl can feel warm in direct sun, so many properties use it on shaded cabana seating and woven Sunbrella on open loungers.

Quick-dry foam

Dryfast is an open-cell, quick-drain outdoor foam. Water runs straight through rather than pooling inside, so a cushion soaked by a swimmer dries quickly in the sun. Dryfast carries a 5-year warranty. Standard foam on a pool deck stays damp, smells and can grow mildew. It is the most common cause of early failure.

Towel use and daily care

A towel policy protects cushions more than any fabric choice. Ask guests or members to use a towel on loungers, and have attendants lay one on each chaise at opening. Towels absorb sunscreen and body oils before they reach the fabric.

  • Brush off sand and debris at close.
  • Rinse with fresh water periodically to remove chlorine and salt residue.
  • Spot clean sunscreen marks promptly with mild soap and water.
  • Stand cushions on edge after heavy rain so they drain fully.

Spare covers and seasonal storage

On a busy deck, one bad stain can take a lounger out of service. Order spare covers with your main batch so colours match, and keep them in a dry storeroom. Because covers are zipped and removable, you can swap one in minutes and wash the other later.

For seasonal properties and clubs that close the pool in fall:

  1. Wash covers and let foam dry completely.
  2. Store cushions flat or on edge, off the floor, in a dry, ventilated space.
  3. Avoid sealed plastic bags that trap moisture.
  4. Check for damage before spring so you can reorder covers or foam in time.

Brand colour standards

Hotel groups and clubs often have set brand colours. With 5,000+ colours available, there is usually a close match, but always approve from a physical swatch in outdoor light, not a screen. Keep a reference swatch on file. When you reorder, use the same fabric and colour name and check new pieces against your reference swatch, so the deck stays consistent. Swatches are $7 each, and the cost is credited back on your order.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using standard foam outdoors on a pool deck.
  • Measuring one chaise and assuming every model matches.
  • Getting the hinge point wrong on reclining loungers.
  • Choosing very pale colours with no towel policy.
  • Ordering no spare covers before peak season.
  • Leaving custom cabana shapes until the last minute.

Ordering for a business

  1. List every piece on the deck by type and model, with measurements and photos.
  2. Send it to operation@fabricakraft.com or through our bulk cushion enquiry form.
  3. Approve the spec sheet and drawing before cutting. If your fire marshal or insurer has requirements, we attach the maker's test reports; details are on our fire safety standards page.
  4. Production takes 2 to 3 weeks for standard shapes and 5 to 6 weeks for custom shapes. Rush production and express shipping are available at extra cost.

Every cushion is made within ±0.5 inch of the ordered size, or we remake it free. Hospitality designers and procurement teams can join our trade program for tiered pricing and priority production. To get started before the season, visit our pool cushions page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best fabric for pool lounger cushions?

Solution-dyed Sunbrella is the most common choice for fade and mold resistance. For a fully waterproof surface, consider the Sunbrella waterproof range or Horizon marine vinyl.

How quickly do Dryfast cushions dry?

Dryfast is open-cell and drains straight through, so it dries far faster than standard foam, especially in sun and moving air.

Can you match our brand colours?

With 5,000+ colours there is usually a close match. Approve from a physical swatch in outdoor light before production.

When should a club order for the summer season?

Allow 2 to 3 weeks for standard shapes and 5 to 6 weeks for custom cabana shapes, plus time for swatches and approval. Ordering in late winter or early spring is safest.

Can we reorder just covers in later years?

Yes. Covers can be ordered without foam, and foam can be ordered alone.
