6 Restaurant Booth Cushion Updates You Do Not Want to Miss Before the Holiday Season
On this page
During the holiday season, many restaurants host larger groups and longer dinners, and every guest sits on the same seat cushions and leans on the same backs. The tired foam and stained covers become noticeable quite quickly under such use.
Most of the problems with booths are due to the cushions, not the booths themselves, and it is the cushions that can be replaced swiftly. By using new foam, fresh covers, a more suitable shape, and a few carefully selected pillows, you can alter the appearance and feel of a dining room, each of these items being able to be custom-made within a few weeks.
The following six updates concern booths and banquettes which have loose or removable seat and back cushions, and you can arrange them at present so that your seating will be ready long before the holiday rush starts.
1. Can you replace just the booth cushion covers?
Certainly. In most cases, a cover-only order is the quickest and most economical way to refresh the item if the foam beneath is still firm, but the covers are stained, torn, or faded. Every Fabrica Kraft cushion can be ordered as a cover only, cut to size, so you keep the foam you already have.
You can make a quick judgment by pressing on the centre of a seat cushion and observing its reaction, since foam that rebounds is generally okay, whereas foam that remains dented indicates the need for the next update. When the foam is in good condition, new covers will give the booth a completely new appearance.
A zippered cover also makes day-to-day care easier, since staff can remove it for cleaning and only the cover needs replacing when it wears out. Fabrica Kraft also makes replacement covers in matching colourways and patterns. When you refresh several booths, ordering all the covers together in the same fabric keeps the dining room looking consistent.
Sunbrella is a practical fabric for covers. It is a solution-dyed acrylic, which means the colour runs through the whole fibre, and it is stain-resistant and can be cleaned with mild soap or a diluted bleach solution. You can compare every colour in the Sunbrella Cushions collection, which can be filtered by cover colour, including brown, orange, red, and yellow.
When you order a cover only, measure your foam rather than the old cover. The cover is cut to fit the foam snugly, so the foam’s size is the one that matters.
2. How do you fix cushions that have gone flat?

Once the foam has flattened, sagged, or become crumbly, the cushion has reached the stage at which it should be replaced, and simply replacing the cover will not restore the comfort. By using specially made foam inserts, cut to exactly match your seat's depth, width, thickness, and corners, the seat can be restored without having to start the process all over again.
For most booth seats, high-density foam is the usual starting point. It has a medium feel and suits regular to heavy use, with a density of 2.8 lb/ft³ and a firmness rating, called ILD, of 35. Higher ILD numbers mean firmer foam. For thin seats of one to three inches, Luxury foam is the better fit because it has the same density with a firmer 50 ILD rating. Fabrica Kraft notes that lower-density foam compresses quickly and can lose its shape within a year.
The material needed for the back is different from that used for the seats. Although super soft foam with a rating of 12 ILD provides a comfortable lean-back, it is intended solely for use in back cushions and is not used in the seats. A Dacron wrap, a one-inch layer of polyester fibrefill around the foam, rounds the edges and fills the cover so the cushion looks full rather than sagging.
Foam up to six inches thick is cut from one solid piece, and cushions up to eight inches are made from two pieces of the same foam bonded together at no extra charge. For thicker cushions or layered foam types, contact the team. If your venue needs compliance paperwork, fire-retardant variants and CertiPUR-US certified versions of the high-density foam are available. You can see the full range in the Custom Foam collection.
3. Is Ultraleather a good choice for restaurant booth cushions?
Ultraleather is a polyurethane faux leather that Fabrica Kraft describes as easy to clean, stain-resistant, and built to withstand heavy wear, which is why it suits high-traffic seating such as booths and banquettes. It is also described as antimicrobial, meaning it inhibits the growth of bacteria and microbes, and it resists mold and mildew.
The care routine is straightforward, something that becomes important when a booth goes through several cycles in a single evening. The advised procedure is to quickly clear up any spills, to clean regularly using mild soap and water, and to sanitize by mixing a solution of one part bleach to five parts water. In the case of stubborn stains, isopropyl alcohol can be applied immediately, after which the surface should be thoroughly rinsed and left to air dry completely. It's a good idea to test any new cleaner on a concealed area first, and to pass these steps on to your closing team so that each booth is treated in the same way.
Ultraleather comes in 51 colours across five collections: Brisa Forecast, Brisa Frontier, Coast, Pumice, and Summit. That range makes it easy to find a faux leather seat cushion in a tone that suits your dining room, from light neutrals to deeper shades.
Because holiday dates are fixed, ask for the lead time on your chosen colour when you request a quote. Some fabrics are made to order on a longer schedule than others, and pre-order fabrics need extra time. Start with the Ultraleather Cushions collection, where each colour has an Instant Quote link.
4. Can you get custom cushions for L-shaped and curved booths?
Yes. Standard sizes rarely fit corner booths, half-round banquettes, or angled seating, and a cushion that is slightly off will gap, slide, or leave a visible edge. Every Fabrica Kraft cushion is made to your exact measurements, and the shapes it makes include trapezoid, rounded-corner, triangle, round and half-round, L-shaped, T-shaped, and bolster cushions.
For an unusual shape, tick the unique shape option when you order and send a paper template afterward. For foam, non-rectangular shapes such as L-shaped seats and trapezoids can also be quoted from a simple sketch. For a standard rectangle, measure the seat side to side and front to back, and round up to the nearest quarter inch. For a tapered seat, measure both the front width and the back width.
Two finishing options help cushions stay in place and look tidy. Piping, a cord covered in matching fabric and sewn into the seam, adds stability and a neat edge. Ties secure a cushion to the seat or the back, and if the tie style you want is not listed, you can email the team to ask.
Plan for a small cutting tolerance of up to about one inch in length and width, and mention it when your seating has tight corners. You also do not need a large order to get started. Fabrica Kraft’s guide, Design Freely with Custom Home Furnishings—No MOQ Required, explains that there is no minimum order, so you can begin with four cushions for a single banquette.
5. What colour booth cushions work best for the holidays?

Colour is the quickest way to make a dining room feel seasonal, and deeper tones tend to show everyday marks less than very pale ones. Warm desert, clay, and brown shades also sit comfortably beside wood tables, candlelight, and greenery, which are common in holiday dining rooms.
A good example is the Ultraleather - Mohave Cushion, a Brisa Frontier faux leather in desert tones with a stylish texture. It resists water, mildew, and UV rays and keeps its colour over time, and its description pairs it with clay pottery, woven blankets, and pale stone. It is even suggested for a leather-look banquette, so it suits booth seating directly.
Simplify the colour scheme by selecting a single main seat colour for the booths and having the pillows take on any seasonal accents. This method makes it easy to change the holiday look in January since the seat cushions remain unchanged while the accents do change.
If you prefer a woven look, check Sunbrella colours before you commit. Sunbrella swatches cost $6 each, with solid-color samples about two inches square, and they ship in seven to ten business days. Availability changes often, so order samples early and hold them against your tables, floor, and walls in the room’s real lighting.
6. How do you choose cushions for restaurant window seats?
Window seats are usually built in, so a store-bought cushion rarely fits. Fabrica Kraft makes custom window seat cushions to the exact length and depth of your seat, whether it is a straight seat under a window, a bay window with angled ends, or a corner nook. That makes them a natural fit for cafes and restaurants with banquette seating along the front windows.
Fabric choice depends on how much sun the seat gets, and window seats often sit in the brightest part of a dining room. For a seat in strong sun, Sunbrella is the usual recommendation because it is solution-dyed and holds its colour. Warwick fabrics, velvet, and faux leather suit window seats with less direct sun and give the nook a cozier look.
The thickness affects the way the seat feels. Although most window seats have a cushion that is two to four inches thick, thinner cushions keep the height of the seat comfortable when there is a low window and thicker cushions make it feel more like a reading nook. In a restaurant, you should check how the seat height works with your tables before making your decision.
If the seat is in a bay with angled ends, take measurements of the back length as well as the front length so that the cushion matches the shape of the window. Whenever your window seats differ in length, get a cushion made to its individual measurements rather than using one size for all of them. Bolsters are provided at both ends of the seat and the price is updated as you are building the cushion, allowing you to compare the fabrics and thicknesses before making your choice. Begin with the Window Seat Cushions collection.
When should restaurants order booth cushions before the holidays?
Booking for holidays starts earlier than most owners anticipate. As stated in Tripleseat’s holiday playbook for hospitality groups, the number of inquiries about holiday bookings increases by five to six times between October and November, and December alone can make up 12 to 13 percent of annual event revenue (Tripleseat). Because of this, October is the sensible time to have seating arranged.
Allow time for production and shipping. Fabrica Kraft cushions are made to order in about two to three weeks, and the cover and foam may arrive in separate boxes a few days apart. Pre-order fabrics need more time, so confirm the date for your chosen fabric when you request a quote.
A simple plan will help keep your order stress-free:
1. This week, when you're in the dining room, please check which of the booths need foam, covers, or both.
2. Get quotations for the busiest booths first in order that they may be ready in advance of the surge.
3. Leave some space when ordering for shipping so that the cushions will arrive before your first big party.
