Yoga Bolsters and Meditation Cushions for Studios and Retreats
A practical guide for Australian yoga studios, wellness retreats and teachers on ordering custom yoga bolsters and meditation floor cushions in bulk.
On this page
Quick answer: For a yoga studio or retreat, order custom bolsters and meditation floor cushions with a firm foam core and zipped, removable covers so they can be washed between classes. Choose one durable fabric and a few colours, confirm sizes on a spec sheet, and order in batches as your class numbers grow.
Studio props take more wear than home ones. Bolsters are lifted, stacked and leaned on many times a day, and meditation cushions are sat on for long sessions. Props that sag or look tired after one season cost more in the end. If you are fitting out a new studio or replacing a whole set, our bulk cushion enquiry form is the quickest way to get a quote.
This guide is written for studio owners, retreat managers, yoga teachers and the fit-out teams that work with them. It covers which props to choose, foam, fabric, cleaning and how a bulk order works.
What a studio usually needs
- Bolsters for restorative and yin classes. Tell us the profile and size you want and we confirm it on the spec sheet. Our pillows and bolsters collection shows the shapes.
- Meditation floor cushions in square, round or rectangular shapes, including low rectangular mats for kneeling or cross-legged sitting. See our floor cushions collection.
- Bench and seat pads for reception benches, change rooms and verandah seating.
- Custom shapes such as wedges, quoted after you send a template or drawing.
Foam, firmness and size
Every bolster and floor cushion we make has a firm foam core. We use Australian-made foam from Premier Group in Sydney, a 100% Australian-owned business. Commercial high-resilience grades keep their shape through daily classes.
- Bolsters: a firm foam supports the body without collapsing in long holds.
- Meditation cushions: a firm base helps students sit for longer without sinking.
- Thickness: the online builder goes up to 8 inches (about 200 mm). Thicker pieces can be quoted by email.
Every cushion is made to within 13 mm of the ordered size. If we miss that, we remake it free. Ask your senior teachers which firmness and sizes they prefer before you order the full set.
Fabrics for studios and retreats
Studio fabric needs to cope with sweat, sunscreen, bare feet and frequent washing.
| Fabric | Why studios choose it | Care |
|---|---|---|
| Warwick indoor ranges | Woven textures and a wide colour range from an Australian fabric house | Follow Warwick's care guidance |
| Sunbrella upholstery fabrics | Solution-dyed, fade and mould resistant | Removable covers are machine washable |
| Warwick outdoor ranges | Verandahs, decks and open-air retreat spaces | Follow Warwick's care guidance |
For open-air pavilions and decks, an outdoor fabric and quick-drying outdoor foam make sense. Our outdoor reticulated foam is mould-resistant and quick-drying. Swatches carry a small charge, credited back with a one-time code on your order, so teachers can feel the fabric before you commit.
Planning quantities and sizes
Start from your busiest class, not your average one. If your largest restorative class has 20 students, you need at least 20 bolsters, plus a few extra for teachers and students who use two.
- List every prop type with its size, quantity and colour.
- Keep sizes consistent so props stack neatly on shelves and in storage cupboards.
- Measure your storage before you choose sizes. Bolsters that do not fit the shelves end up on the floor.
- Allow for growth. With no minimum order, you can add props in small batches as classes fill.
- Order a few samples first if you are unsure about firmness or size, then order the full set once teachers agree.
Cleaning and rotation
Every bolster and cushion has a zipped, removable cover. That keeps a busy studio practical.
- Wash covers on a regular rotation, following the fabric maker's care guidance.
- Keep a set of spare covers so props stay in use while others are washed.
- Covers can be reordered on their own, and foam can be ordered alone if a core has softened.
- Store props off the floor in a dry, airy space so they keep their shape.
Choosing colours
Warwick and Sunbrella together offer thousands of colours, so it helps to narrow the choice early. Most studios pick one main colour for bolsters and floor cushions, and perhaps one accent colour to mark teacher props or a second room. Earthy, muted shades hide everyday marks better than very pale ones. Order swatches of your shortlist and look at them in your own studio light, morning and evening, before you decide.
Retreats and wellness resorts
Retreats often need props plus seating for guest rooms, decks and dining areas. One supplier for all of it keeps fabrics and colours consistent across the property. Our hotel and resort cushions page covers daybeds, sun lounges and guest-room seating.
Selling props to your students
Many studios sell bolsters and cushions at the front desk. Because there is no minimum order, you can test a small run before committing. Our wholesale cushions page explains how resellers order.
Mistakes to avoid
- Ordering before teachers test them. Start with a few samples and get feedback.
- Too many colours. A short palette makes stacks look tidy and spare covers interchangeable.
- No spare covers. Without them, props are out of use on washing days.
- Indoor fabric outdoors. Use outdoor fabric and foam for decks and open pavilions.
- Guessing sizes. Confirm every size on the spec sheet before cutting.
How a commercial order works
Send your list of props, sizes, quantities and fabric choices through our bulk cushion enquiry form, or email operation@fabricakraft.com. We reply with fabric suggestions and a quote, then you approve a spec sheet with a drawing of each piece before anything is cut.
Standard shapes take 2 to 3 weeks; custom shapes from a template take 5 to 6 weeks. Rush production and express shipping are available at extra cost if a studio opening is close. Shipping is free within Australia.
Studio groups, retreat operators and designers can join our trade program for 10%, 15% or 20% off, based on rolling 12-month spend. Resellers get the same tiers. For seating and soft furnishings across the rest of your venue, see our commercial cushions and curtains hub.
