Back Tab Curtains
Back tab (also called hidden tab) is the heading we recommend most often. It gives a cleaner, more tailored look than tab top or rod pocket, costs less than pinch pleat, and works both indoors and out.
Back tab vs other headings
| Heading | Look | Opens and closes | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back tab | Hidden rod, soft even folds | Easily | Living rooms, bedrooms, porches |
| Tab top | Visible fabric loops, relaxed | Easily | Casual rooms, cabins, patios |
| Rod pocket | Gathered on the rod | Stiffly | Windows you rarely open |
| Pinch pleat | Stitched, formal pleats | Most easily, on rings or a track | Formal rooms, sliding doors, hotels |
How to order back tab curtains
- Pick a fabric below: indoor drapery, sheers, or outdoor fabric.
- Measure your rod and plan panels that total 1.5–2× its width.
- Measure the drop from the top of the rod to where you want the hem.
- Choose back tab in the builder, and add blackout lining if you need it (not on sheers).

Questions about back tab curtains
What are back tab curtains?
Curtains with fabric loops sewn to the back of the header. The rod passes through the loops, so it is hidden from the front and the panel forms soft folds.
Are back tab curtains easy to open and close?
Yes, easier than rod pocket. For curtains you open many times a day, such as on a sliding door, pinch pleat on rings is smoother still.
How do you measure back tab curtains?
Measure the drop from the top of the rod. The header sits slightly above the rod, so the rod is hidden.
Can back tab curtains be used outdoors?
Yes. Choose Sunbrella or another outdoor fabric for porches, pergolas and gazebos.
How long do they take?
Most curtains are made in 2–3 weeks with free delivery across Canada. Warwick Outdoor fabric is pre-order, 6–8 weeks.
