Quick answer: Every Sunbrella fabric has a style number, usually written like 5404-0000, where the first part is the pattern and the last four digits are the colourway. Find yours on your original order confirmation or invoice, or ask the company that made your cushions. Search the number to check it is still made; if it is discontinued, look for leftover distributor stock or a published replacement list, or order swatches to match by eye.

You love your patio cushions. One got torn, or the dog chewed a corner, and now you want one more in exactly the same fabric. The problem is that nobody wrote down what the fabric was called. This guide shows you how to find your Sunbrella fabric name and number, how to read the number once you have it, and what to do if your colour has been discontinued.

The short answer

Every Sunbrella fabric has a style number. In the US it usually looks like 5404-0000 or 48032-0000: the first part is the pattern, and the four digits after the dash are the colourway. The quickest places to find yours are your original order confirmation or invoice, or the company that made your cushions. Once you have the number, search for it to see whether the fabric is still made. If it isn't, Sunbrella's retail partners may still hold some yardage, and distributors publish lists of close replacements.

How to read a Sunbrella number

Sunbrella doesn't publish a formal rulebook for its numbers, but the pattern is easy to see once you line a few up. Colours from the same fabric family share the same first part and change only the last four digits:

Style number Fabric What it tells you
5404-0000 Canvas Natural Pattern 5404 (a Canvas colour), standard version
48032-0000 Spectrum Dove Pattern 48032 from the Spectrum family
16001-0004 / 16001-0014 Blend Sage / Blend Linen Same Blend pattern, two different colourways
146479-0006 Carlo Denim The Carlo pattern, colourway 0006
48032-0000 77 Spectrum Dove Rain The extra "77" marks the waterproof Rain version

A few things trip people up:

  • The first part can be four, five or six digits long. Canvas colours use four (5404), Spectrum uses five (48032) and some newer patterns such as Carlo use six (146479). All are normal.
  • Rain fabrics carry an extra code. Spectrum Dove Rain is listed as 48032-0000 77, with a coating on the back that makes it waterproof. Regular Spectrum Dove is water-repellent, not waterproof. If your old cushion had a rubbery back, ask for the Rain version.
  • Not every Sunbrella fabric is acrylic. Sunbrella Horizon, such as Capriccio Heather Beige 10200-0008, is a marine vinyl. If your boat seat wipes clean like leather, it is probably Horizon.
  • Shop item numbers are not style numbers. Distributors add their own catalog numbers, such as "Item # 738508". Always use the style number when you search.

European codes look different

Sunbrella fabrics made for Europe use a letters-and-numbers code such as SJA 3966 137 or NAT 10028 140. The letters are the collection (for example SJA for solids and stripes, NAT for Natté), the middle number is the design, and the last number matches the fabric width in centimetres: 137 cm is about 54 inches, 140 cm is about 55 inches. You can see this on Sunbrella's own fabric pages. Some colours have both kinds of code: Canvas Natural is 5404-0000 in the US and SJA 5404 137 in Europe.

Where to find the number on your own cushions

Here is the honest truth: there is no single place Sunbrella prints the style number on a finished cushion, so start with the paperwork, not the fabric.

  1. Check your order history. Search your email for the original order. Most cushion makers list the fabric name and number on the confirmation or invoice.
  2. Ask whoever made the cushions. Furniture brands and cushion makers keep their own records. Sunbrella itself sends warranty questions about finished products back to the retailer or maker, according to its help centre.
  3. Look inside the cover. Unzip the cushion and check for a label on the inside seam or the foam. Some makers add one. Not all do.
  4. Match it by eye. If you have nothing written down, order a few fabric swatches of the closest colours and hold them against the cushion in daylight. Compare against a side that faced away from the sun, because faded fabric will look lighter than the original.

What if your colour is discontinued?

Sunbrella retires colours over time. When it does, its fabric page usually says "This Sunbrella fabric has been discontinued" and points you to retail partners who may still have some yardage left. You can see an example on this discontinued Oyster page.

Your options, in order:

  1. Look for leftover stock. Search the full style number. Small amounts often sit with fabric distributors for a while after a colour is dropped.
  2. Use a replacement list. The distributor Trivantage publishes a list of discontinued Sunbrella styles with one or two suggested alternatives for each.
  3. Coordinate instead of copying. If an exact match is gone, pick a colour that sits well beside it, then make the new piece look intentional: a contrasting pillow, a bolster or a different colour for the backs.
  4. Re-cover the whole set. On a sectional, a perfect match may not be possible anyway, because old fabric has been in the sun. New covers only for every cushion often costs less than you expect and gives you a set that matches.

A note on dye lots

Even the same style number can vary slightly between production batches. Sunbrella's own European guide notes that its recycled Heritage fabrics vary in colour from batch to batch, and retailers commonly advise ordering everything you need at once. If you are adding one cushion to an older set, a swatch check is always worth it.

Real examples from recent searches

We looked up some of the fabrics customers searched for on our site this season:

  • Pique Sand 40421-0000 is still listed on sunbrella.com.
  • Carlo Denim 146479-0006 is still listed with distributors.
  • Metamorphic Cloud is style 46094-0006.
  • Loft White 46058-0003 is listed as discontinued by at least one retailer.
  • "Timber Bark" doesn't appear to exist under that name. Close matches include Dither Bark (46102-0007), Willa Bark (146465-0004) and Bliss Bark (48135-0013). A swatch will tell you which one is yours.

How to order a match from Fabrica Kraft

Swatches are $7 each, and the full amount comes back as credit on your cushion order. Every cushion is cut to within ±0.5″ of the size you order and usually ships in 2–3 weeks.

FAQ

What does the -0000 at the end of a Sunbrella number mean?

It is the colourway or version code. Colours from the same fabric family share the first part of the number and change the last four digits.

Is every Sunbrella fabric waterproof?

No. Most Sunbrella fabrics are water-repellent. Sunbrella Rain and Sunbrella Horizon marine vinyl are waterproof.

Can I match a cushion that has faded?

You can match the original colour, but the new cushion will look brighter until it has had the same sun. Compare swatches against a part of the old cushion that was shaded.

Who do I call about a Sunbrella warranty?

Start with the company that sold or made your cushions. Sunbrella's help center routes finished-product claims to them.
