Curtains for Sliding Glass Doors
Sliding doors are wide, tall and used every day, which is why standard curtain panels often fall short. Custom curtains let you cover the full width, clear the door when open, and hang at the right length so the hem doesn't catch on the track.
What works best on a slider
- Wide panels: one or two panels up to 120″ wide each cover most patio doors
- Easy-glide headings: pinch pleat on rings or a traverse rod, or back tab panels, open and close smoothly many times a day
- Stack-back room: extend the rod 8–12″ past the frame on the stacking side so open curtains don't block the door
- Floor length: stop the hem about ½″ above the floor so it clears the threshold
Sheer, blackout or both
Warwick sheers soften glare and give daytime privacy while you still see the yard. They're about 126″ wide, so sheer panels up to 120″ have no seam. Blackout drapery blocks light and helps keep heat out in summer and in during winter. Layering both on a double rod gives you each when you need it.
Measuring a sliding glass door
- Decide where the rod goes: 4–6″ above the frame, or higher to make the door feel taller.
- Measure the door width and add 8–12″ on each side.
- Measure from the rod (or ring bottom for pinch pleats) to the floor at both ends and in the middle, and use the shortest.
Our curtain measuring guide and curtain size calculator cover the details. Then build your curtains in the curtain builder.
Questions about sliding door curtains
What size curtains do I need for a sliding glass door?
Measure the door width, add 8–12″ on each side, and plan panels that together are about 1.5–2× that width. For length, measure from the rod to the floor.
One panel or two?
Two panels that part in the middle look balanced. One wide panel that stacks to the side away from the opening is easier if you use the door often.
Which heading is best for a patio door?
Pinch pleat on rings or a traverse rod, or back tab panels, slide most smoothly. Rod pocket curtains are better for windows you rarely open.
Can I use blackout curtains on a sliding door?
Yes. Our 100% blackout lining helps with light, heat and glare, and suits bedrooms and media rooms that open onto a patio.
How long do they take?
Each order is made in 2–3 weeks, with free US shipping.
