Custom navy Sunbrella bench cushions on a built-in breakfast nook banquette

A bench cushion only looks right when it fits edge to edge. Off-the-shelf pads leave gaps at the ends of a built-in banquette, slide off a mudroom bench, and never match the angled sides of a bay window. We make every custom bench cushion and window seat cushion to your measurements, so it sits flush against the wall and lines up with the front edge.

Choose a straight bench cushion for dining benches, breakfast nooks, entryway and mudroom benches, piano benches and storage benches. For bay windows we cut trapezoid cushions with angled ends from your back length, front length and depth. L-shaped banquettes can be made as one piece or as two cushions that meet at the corner.

For kitchens and dining areas, Sunbrella fabric is a practical choice: it is solution-dyed, so spills clean up with mild soap and water, and sunny window seats will not fade. We also make bench cushions in velvet, leather, Ultraleather, Warwick and Gabriel upholstery fabrics for a softer indoor look.

Most dining and piano bench cushions are 2" to 3" thick so you sit at the right height for the table or keys. Window seats and reading nooks are often 3" to 4", with a 1" Dacron wrap for a rounded, upholstered edge. Every cover has a zipper so the foam can be removed and the cover cleaned.

Start with the Custom Bench Cushion or the Custom Window Seat Cushion, choose your fabric, and send your measurements with your quote. We confirm the size and price by email before we cut anything.

Bench & Window Seat Cushion FAQs

Find quick answers to common questions about our products, services, and project support.

How do I measure a bench or window seat? + −

Measure the length from end to end and the depth from the wall to the front edge, in inches. For a bay window, measure the back edge and the front edge separately, plus the depth at the center. For angled or curved ends, trace the seat on paper and send us a photo.

What thickness should a dining bench cushion be? + −

2" to 3" works for most dining benches and banquettes, so you sit at a comfortable height for the table. If your bench is lower than standard, a 4" cushion can make up the difference.

Can you make a cushion for an L-shaped banquette? + −

Yes. We can make one L-shaped cushion or two straight cushions that meet at the corner. Send the length of each side and the depth, and tell us which side runs to the corner.

Will the cushion slide on a bench? + −

A snug fit between walls usually holds a built-in cushion in place. For freestanding benches, ask for ties or a non-slip backing in your quote notes.

Can I use the same cushion indoors and outdoors? + −

Yes, if you choose Sunbrella fabric and Dry Fast foam. Dry Fast foam lets rain drain through, so an outdoor bench cushion dries quickly after a storm.
